Salsa Dance Lessons and Performances
The events start with a free
beginner salsa dance lesson at 3pm
for anyone who’s ever wanted to learn
how to dance salsa, even those who claim
they have two left feet! The lessons last
for half an hour (3:00-3:30pm) and are taught
by some of vancouver's best salsa instructors.
At 5pm there are dance demonstrations
featuring peformances by some of Vancouver’s
more talented dancers.
After the lessons and performances, hundreds
of salsa dancers take centre stage doing
what they enjoy most, dancing salsa. People
of all ages and from all backgrounds join
in the fun, celebrating Vancouver’s
uniqueness as well as its cultural and ethnic
diversity.
Sunday Afternoon Salsa is
open to everyone and you are welcome whether
you dance every night in the local clubs,
are just starting to take lessons, or have
only heard about salsa dancing but don't
know what all the fuss is about. Join in
the fun or just come and watch, Vancouver
has plenty of accomplished dancers who love
to show off!
Even if you've never danced
a day in your life, don't feel shy. Come
and try the free lesson, watch the shows,
or just check out the social dancing throughout
the afternoon and see how much fun it is!
There is lots of information available about
salsa dance classes and lessons, and many
instructors will be there who can answer
any questions you may have.
Robson Square is where
many people in Vancouver
discover salsa for the
first time. Here's what
one salsa dancer says
about Robson Square:
"Just
wanted to say thanks to
you and the crew for putting
on the event. Robson Square
is how I got into salsa.
I remember walking by
on a warm summer night
two years ago and seeing
all these people stream
downstairs. I was stunned
to see the square lit
up all warm and gold and
all these people dancing.
I was so jealous that
I couldn't dance and that
encouraged me to get started.
I've really missed the
square the last two years
when it was closed, but
coming back these last
two weekends really made
it full circle for me
and I want to thank you
guys for introducing me
to salsa." (Edwin Y)

About Us
Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson
Square was created by Stephen and Jennifer Dancey
of SalsaVancouver.net
in partnership with Drew Matlow.
Two seasons of dances were held
in the summer months of July and August in 2006
and 2007, until Robson Square was closed for pre-Olympic
renovation. In 2009, an autumn series of dances
was held in September and October to celebrate
the re-opening of the revitalized Robson Square
prior to the 2010 Olympic Games.
A big thank you to the
Sunday Afternoon Salsa volunteer event crew
who run these events better than we could ourselves.
Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson Square would
not be possible without you.
